Vintage POP

Sunday, September 4th, 2011

From the fine people who bring us POP Montreal every year comes another project close to our hearts. Vintage POP is a pop-up shop hosting some of the city’s best second-hand clothing curators under one roof. Featuring men’s and women’s clothing, the sale will have an array of amazing pieces spanning the ’20s to the ’90s, plus a selection of vintage housewares and accessories. These girls worked hard to find the most unique pieces, particularly duds that will keep us cozy as the temperatures start to drop.

Where To Go:
OFF Interarts (5145 St. Laurent, in Montreal), between Laurier and Fairmount. The nearest metro is Laurier.

When To Get There:
Wednesday, September 7th from 11-7
Thursday, September 8th from 11-9
Friday, September 9th from 11-9
Saturday, September 10th from 11-7

Participating Vendors:
Young Captive , New Wave Natives, FAD, Hunt Club, Megacat, Cheap Opulence, Caesar Pony, Tarantula Sisters, Homerun, YARD666SALE, YeYe Vintage

You can get a sneak peek by checking out some of the vendors’ websites, but trust us, it’ll look better in person. So get out there and support local businesses by bring all your friends, but only the ones who don’t wear the same dress size as you!

If you live in Montreal and are a fan of independent music, fashion, and art, you are probably somewhat aware of Puces Pop, the five day cultural festival that celebrates the city’s coolest.

Now in their 10th year, Puces Pop is currently seeking vendors for their craft sale, taking on September 24th and 25th. This carefully curated event will showcase the best of independent designer, artists, and crafters — and you know you want in on this. Applications are due on August 8th.

Tee Envy

Monday, May 9th, 2011

Well-known for his robotic, monster-filled poster art for the likes of Xiu Xiu and Peaches — not to mention numerous WORN layouts and our business cards — Tyler Rauman is a longtime WORN crush. He made us proud yet again when he won the first ever POP Montreal tee-shirt design contest.

A panel of judges chose Tyler’s blockhead biker design complete with boombox and bird (holy alliteration, Batman!), while a popular choice vote chose Bridget Moser’s Bottomless Person with a Book. Tyler and Bridget’s designs were printed on a small number of American Apparel tees and sold at the POP pop-up-shop in Montreal for only one week. Now I’ve just got to get my wornette hands on one of those tees…

WORN is hooking up with POP Montreal!

Monday, August 17th, 2009

So last October I went to Montreal to be a judge for the Emerging Fashion Designer Award put on by POP Montreal. The winner was the very talented and very deserving Dane Gerus (outfit from his collection pictured above). This year, WORN decided that its readers would love to see what the winner cooked up, so we are sponsoring the awards! There is still time to get in on this year’s action; call for participants is below. Good luck!

“Puces Pop is looking for a fresh crop of design talent for the 2009 Puces Pop Launch Party and Emerging Fashion Designer Award. Sponsored by Le Chateau, 6 Quebec designers on the rise will present a 6 look mini-collection to a panel of judges from the industry. The winner receives a $1000 prize, a $500 gift certificate from Le Chateau and a spread in Worn Fashion Journal. Interested in participating? Email a short bio or description of your collection and a minimum of 2 photos of your work to puces@popmontreal.com before August 20th.”

xoxo,
Serah-Marie
