Heartbreak Karaoke is back!

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Was it the son of a preacher man? A devil in a blue dress?

Or just that guitar picker your daddy told you not to marry

(You know they ain’t no good and your babies will probably grow up to be cowboys, too.)

You obviously don’t listen – but now everyone else will, dammit.

Be The Wornette Party Girl.

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

Can you plan a party like Lorelai Gilmore?

As you should be well aware, WORN Fashion Journal has thrown some truly great parties: karaoke, slow dances, gala fundraisers – we know how to shake our tail feathers. And now we’re looking for a vivacious event coordinator to manage our black book. This is a great opportunity for leadership experience in event planning and publicity within Toronto’s (and beyond) artistic community. This is a volunteer position for now, on average 5-6 hours a week, double in the time just before an event. 12 month commitment required.

What You’d Be Doing

-generate ideas for WORN parties and fundraisers, working with the team to execute the event from start to finish
-source out interesting venues and features
-design and lead promotional campaign (includes overseeing photoshoots, flyer and poster design)
-create and stick to a budget
-write press releases and promote the event to the press
-secure sponsorships from supportive like-minded companies
-attend a monthly staff meeting and bi-weekly event meetings at the WORN office
-attend Toronto fashion events on behalf of WORN

What You Need To Do It
-proven leadership abilities
-mad organizational skills
-nimble problem solving capabilities
-knowledge of Toronto’s nightlife
-desire to schmooze

All candidates should submit a resume and answers to following questions in an attached document to saraf@wornjournal.com:

1) Who attends WORN parties? What kind of person are they?

2) Describe the finest party you’ve been to. What made it special?

3) Pitch us three WORN event ideas.

4) What do you think is the most effective form of promotion?

5) Detail your weekly schedule. When do you work? Are you in school?

MONTREAL issue 9 release party: Winter Formal Slowdance!

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

Even though we love our new home of Toronto, WORN misses Montreal!

We’ve decided to hook up with Slow Dance Night once again and throw an issue 9 release party and bring you the formal you’ve been waiting for since high school. Think of it as your second shot, but without the bad hair, embarrassing chaperones, and excruciating, hormone-flooded insecurity. This is an event that demands you step up, dress up, and step out.

Saturday, November 21st, 9pm-1am Eastern Bloc, 7240 Clark Ave.
10$ formal ticket gets you the new issue of WORN and a dancecard!

Indulge your nostalgia. There’s not a dress too full, nor tux too ruffled – there hasn’t been a corsage made that’s too sneeze-inducing for this event. The Winter Formal Slowdance is a place to work out all your fashion wish-I-hads and remember-whens. When was the last time you really dressed up and went dancing?

To The Nines

Monday, November 9th, 2009

WORN’s favourite Ottawa boutique Victoire held a charming night of shopping last week. Katie and Regine have been collecting gorgeous vintage cocktail dresses for months in preparation for this night, and it showed.

I prepared for the evening by listening to the original Crybaby soundtrack on the way there. (Sidenote: Lovers of retro kitsch, watch this movie! Unconvinced? Read its tagline: “Too young to be square… Too tough to be shocked… Too late to be saved”? Ultimate classic.) Upon arrival the atmosphere did not disappoint - the girls had all the best 50s and 60s jukebox hits playing, sweet bite-sized snacks and little cups of blackberry wine, and of course the amazing selection of dresses filling out the racks! Not a surprise, then, that the whole space was filled up with well-dressed ladies (and gents) browsing, mingling, and enjoying themselves.

did I mention the La Chatte Bottée shoes?

Aw! What an awesome night, girls. Katie and Regine’s true love of vintage shone through in every detail of the night, from the dresses arranged neatly by colour to the satin ribbons tied on every hanger.
