In the heart of the plateau on Saint Laurent Street lives the Point Vert, a haven for all magazine junkies. Entering the small magazine store, I’m overwhelmed with vibrant glossy covers that fight to grab my attention. Splashed against a harsh industrial background, there is an array of magazines to choose from on everything from fashion, art, travel, and sports to science.

Wondering through the magazine hub, which feels more like an old basement that hasn’t been finished, I’m happy to see some familiar faces, like Anthem, Print and our very own Worn Journal. However, as a magazine junkie myself, I’m also pleasantly surprised to see some new faces like Nico a fashion magazine from Luxembourg whose illustrated cover grabbed my attention.

Other than magazines, Point Vert also has a small selection of second hand books, both in English and French, and Internet access that costs 2.50 per 30 minutes. That being said, there are far better second hand books stores and cheaper Internet cafés in Montréal.

It is the new and interesting characters you will find sitting on the stand waiting to be read that makes this magazine store characterized by old green pipes and metal frames, a stopping point on Saint Laurent.
