There are three reasons why ridiculously bright shoelaces will always hold a special place in my heart: 1) They make a boring pair of plain white sneakers infinitely more interesting. 2) They’re a subtle enough way to add colour without making me look like Rainbow Brite. 3) They are quite easy on my wallet, which means all the more money to spend on the shoes themselves.

Did you ever have the shoelaces that were really tightly coiled elastics? I remember being really excited about those as a kid, but I can’t remember the last time I’ve actually seen a pair. Mine were neon green.

(Another exciting thing about them is you could fling them at people.)

Ha - Hailey, you’re too funny.
My favourites were these sort of pale green rubber tube-looking things. They were impossible to keep tied, but they glowed in the dark. I adored them.
I’m not a huge fan of wacky shoelaces, but weirdly enough, I’ve developed a real love of plain ones. There’s something about a lace that perfectly matches a shoe that makes me happy.

I loved the super tight coiled ones because you never had to worry about tying them up :)

You had shoelaces that glowed in the dark? Oh man. I would have loved those. I would still love those, actually.

I remember wearing shoes when I was really, really young - maybe in kindergarten - with little red lights in the heels. They lit up every time your heel hit the ground. I thought they were the coolest things ever.

Hailey - I found a package of those coil laces when I was cleaning out my parents’ basement the other day for a garage sale!
