WORN Mending Night This Thursday

Now that our summer wardrobes are in tip top shape (from all the enthusiastic attendance at WORN’s monthly mending nights, no doubt), the weather’s gone and changed on us. How does that saying go? A mender’s work is never done.

It’s time to move on to warmer and fuzzier things, so dig out those fall duds and come on out. Whether your entire store of sweaters has fallen prey to faulty mothballs or (phew!) it’s just your blazer that needs new elbow patches, you know where to go.

We’re sure that you don’t need reminding that a certain big celebration is coming up in a few weeks too. Why not have a quick rummage through your friends’ closets or your nearest Goodwill to get a jump start? Mending a previously loved costume will save you a ton of time and money (which you can then spend on a ton of candy, of course).

As if a new season and the anticipation of Hallowe’en isn’t enough of a pull, there will also be the company of Wornettes, great music, and light refreshments as always.

WORN Mending Night This Thursday

Once again, Wornettes will be piling into Freedom Clothing Collective to frantically fix our glorious garments. If you aren’t scared off by our alliteration, come join us! We will help you find the best way to mend your stuff. For those of you who live your life in pristine elegance and have never torn a seam, we will have supplies on hand to make an easy craft. It may or may not be directly related to this video.

You can also join our mending night Facebook page here and RSVP to the September night here.

Come to WORN’s Mending Night

Warmer weather means its time to take the lighter clothes out of storage, but nothing takes the sunshine out of a summer day worse than finding a tear or missing button on your favourite sundress. Luckily, WORN’s got you covered. Bring your damaged goods to WORN Fashion Journal’s monthly mending night at Freedom Clothing Collective. We’ve got the Torontoist and National Post talking: come for the stitching, stay for the tea and conversation. Your wardrobe will thank you.

Come to WORN’S Mending Night: Buttons Edition

What can I say: they’re cute, they make me smile, and they keep our clothes together. But dang if they don’t love to fall off.

Maybe I suffer from hulk-style super strength, but I have a feeling that I am not the only one who keeps losing buttons. Sitting in jars with change and bits of paper, spare buttons permeate my room.

The time for change has come! At our next mending night, we will make it our mission to reattach all the plastic, bone, glass or metal bits that keep our cardigans closed. Let’s make a pact to pull out all those double-breasted blazers that we never wear for that one missing button and restore them to former glory. We owe it to the garments that live relegated to ever growing piles of things “to be fixed.”

As always, feel free to bring any garment or other sewing projects you have to work on.
