What inspired this outfit?
I mostly wear black, but it was an exceptionally warm day, so I decided to put on this new (old) skirt from 69 Vintage which flows in the breeze really nicely. I was also going to a fashion show that evening, so I wanted to wear something a bit different from what I usually wear.

Tell me about one of the items you’re wearing.
My leather tote is from Joe Fresh and it’s my favourite thing these days. It’s perfect for packing magazines and lunches, which I bring to work daily.

What’s the best book to read in this outfit?
Hmm… I think this skirt is sort of romantic, so maybe something like My Mistress’s Sparrow is Dead, which is a collection of love stories edited by Jeffrey Eugenides, or The Marriage Plot, whichever.

Worn to WORN: Alyssa is Catwoman

What inspired this outfit?
Honestly? I would have to say it’s a tie… between my two very fashionable cats (seriously: one sports a bowtie and the other is named Coco Chanel). My shifts at WORN present rare opportunities to play with my favorite dressing concept: themes. This very cat themed outfit seemed like just the thing to keep the giddy smile my cats give me in the morning on my face all day. I mean, how can I not smile when wearing this level of cat-ness?

Tell me about one of the items you’re wearing.
This sweater has quickly turned into one of those items I will create any excuse to wear. I’m cold? Cat sweater. Bored? Cat sweater. Need a hug? Cat sweater. Since the moment I saw it on Little Doodles, the blog of one of my favorite whimsical doodlers, I knew it had to be mine. I ordered it from Indonesia in the middle of the night while vacationing in NYC. It was sold out by morning. Since ripping it from its pristine yellow envelope, I have barely had the heart to peel it from my torso for a wash. My favorite detail is the fuzzy grandma-like embroidered words.

What’s the best book to read in this outfit?
I’ll bypass my childhood favourite A House Full of Cats at the risk of sounding juvenile and take the more adult route. Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer is by far the most extensive, well-written animal related book I have ever set eyes on. Foer delves into the intelligence levels of animals, from cats to turkeys, and deconstructs the reasoning behind choosing to eat some but not others. This intelligent piece of literary journalism is a must-read for animal lovers and meat lovers alike. I figure if I’m going to wear my cat obsession on my sleeve (or chest, rather), I may as well do so while curled up with a great book about animal rights amongst good company.

Of course, by “good company” I mean cats.

What style icon would wear this outfit?
I’m going to go out on a limb and say Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, if she were to exist in modern times. The black ballet flats combined with her obvious love for Cat, her cat, would make her a perfect candidate to showcase this cat-tastic style.

What I Wore to WORN: Six French Schoolgirls and a Bad, Bad Hat!

What inspired this outfit?
I really wanted to wear this felt hat that my best friend Lindsay (you may know her from this) gave me. I had also been wearing this crop top that I got from my friend June for about a week straight. A mathematical equation of the outfit might read: hat + crop top x layers to prevent frozen limbs = lazy monday outfit I ended up really liking.

Tell me about one of the items you’re wearing.
You can’t see it in the photos, but I’m wearing one of my favourite new watches. I bought them in an antique mall in Queensville recently for $6, and they came with a tiny orange Timex case too!

What’s the best book to read in this outfit?
Katie Wornette said (in a loving way, I’m sure) that I looked like a French Hipster in this look, so maybe something by a French author. A Woman’s Story and Simple Passion by Annie Ernaux are beautiful, short reads that I feel might lend themselves to this look.

What style icon would wear this outfit?
Seeing as my day began by chasing my hat across Dundas street—after it narrowly escaped being crushed by a truck, but before the entire Junction 40 bus chuckled under their breath—I would have to say Madeline. Her rendition of this song seems particularly suited to my look. My roommate and fellow Wornette, Max, did say that the look came off as inspired by Six from Blossom though, which I can totally see.

What I Wore to Worn: Hillary Predko

What inspired this outfit?
This outfit consists of my best staples all thrown together into one ensemble. From pleats, ruffles, lace, and plaid, I think my penchant for pretty things shines through.

Tell me about one of the items you’re wearing.
This skirt is actually from another Wornette! It had been Anisha’s and I found it at Chelsea’s clothing swap. It pays to have fashionable friends.

What’s the best book to read in this outfit?
Wildwood. Maybe I’m biased because I’m currently reading it, but I think the whimsical world of fantastical, contemporary Oregon works nicely with such a cute get-up.

What style icon would wear this outfit?
Alice from Alice in Wonderland.
